Estimates of inequality

• Measures of income inequality: data by Klaus Deininger and Lyn Squire on Gini coefficients, cumulative quintile shares, explanations regarding the basis on which the Gini coefficient was computed, and the source of the information.
• A map by the OECD on the poorest fifth’s share of national consumption.

World Income Inequality Database (WIID):

• This database includes information on income inequality for industrialized, developing and transition countries over the 1997-1999 period. A joint project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations University/World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU/WIDER), the database is available to download from both web sites.

Strategy 21 goals:

Social Indicators:

• The World Bank social indicators are now available from the Poverty Monitoring Database.
• UN social indicators from the UN Statistics Division.

Country data sets

• The India poverty project assembled detailed nationwide and state-level statistics from 1950 to 1994 on expenditures, National Accounts, prices, wages, population, and others. The complete data are now available on line.
